Burwood baby death: Tragic details emerge as witness recalls father’s grief on finding daughter dead in car
Tragic details have emerged after a one-year-old girl was found dead outside a childcare centre in New South Wales, with one witness reportedly hearing the grief-stricken father scream ‘I’ve killed my daughter’.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene of what they later described as an “absolute tragedy” at 5.35pm on Tuesday.
The one-year-old girl had been found unresponsive in a car outside of Jelly Beings Early Learning Centre on Marana Road.

“When I got there, I saw the (man) with the baby in (his) arms and he was just panicking,” he said.
“We didn’t know what to do, (so) I said, ‘Let’s try and give her CPR, do our best.
“He was screaming, poor guy, he kept screaming saying, ‘I’ve killed my daughter’.”
Mr Gomes said neighbours tried desperately to revive the baby, who he said was “floppy”.
“I didn’t sleep much last night, just because I could see the little baby’s face all night, but it’s just something you do,” he said.
This is an absolute tragedy.
7NEWS understands the father had arrived at the centre to pick her up, only to be told she was never dropped off.
He reportedly ran outside and found his daughter still strapped in her baby capsule in his car.
He was taken to hospital to be treated for shock on Tuesday night.
NSW Police said they were still piecing together the timeline leading up to the discovery of the baby girl.
“The information provided to us suggests that this baby was left inside the vehicle for an extended period of time on a very hot day here in Sydney,” Superintendent Christine McDonald said.
“This is an absolute tragedy.
“Once (the man) is able to, we will speak with him to obtain more details.”
