A toddler has died in hospital after being pulled from a dam in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales.

Police were called to a property on Pipers Flat Rd, Portland about 3pm on Tuesday.

The two-year-old boy had been removed from the water and was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics.

He was then taken to Bathurst Hospital but died soon after.

“Emergency services were called to a property on Pipers Flat Rd, Portland, following reports of a concern for welfare,” NSW Police said.

“Officers attached to Chifley Police District attended and found a two-year-old boy had been pulled from a dam on the property.

“The boy was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bathurst Hospital, where he later died.”

Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Portland is a historic mining town 160km west of Sydney.
