The gunman ran from the scene, leaving the pair shaken but physically unharmed.
The Daily Telegraph previously reported the father was an innocent relative of senior Sydney underworld figures.

More than four months after the alleged attack, detectives from NSW Police’s Taskforce Falcon arrested a 19-year-old man during a vehicle stop in Sans Souci about 1.25pm on Wednesday.
The arrest followed an investigation by Strike Force Gelaro, which was established to investigate the shooting attempt.
At the same time, officers executed a search warrant at a property in Cronulla, allegedly uncovering a knife, illicit drugs and electronic devices.
“Taskforce Falcon detectives have charged a man with allegedly coordinating the attempted murder of a man and teenage girl in Sydney’s south-west earlier this year,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

The 19-year-old was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with two counts of attempting to discharge a loaded firearm at a person with intent to murder.
He was also charged with allegedly installing or using a tracking device without consent, knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group, supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and other drug and weapons offences.
The teenager was refused bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday.
