A little girl has been taken to hospital after she was struck by a car outside a Sydney school.

The seven-year-old girl was hit by a van outside Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Primary School on Vine St in Fairfield about 3.30pm on Wednesday, according to NSW Police.

Paramedics treated the primary school student for leg injuries before taking her in a stable condition to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

NSW Ambulance said her leg was run over in the incident.

Her injuries are non-life-threatening.

NSW Police remain on scene and a crime scene has been declared.

The 35-year-old man behind the wheel of the van has undergone mandatory blood and urine testing and is currently speaking with police.

Vine St is currently closed.
