A man has managed to escape a nightmare scenario in a Sydney housing complex after allegedly being held against his will and enduring attacks with a pair of scissors and a golf club.

Police are alleging that a 46-year-old man entered a unit with another 61-year-old man who is known to him at about 7pm on Saturday, before an argument developed between the two.

The younger man was then allegedly assaulted with a number of items including a pair of scissors and a golf club. The alleged assaults were also of a sexual nature according to police.

It will be further alleged he was prevented from leaving the premises before finally being able to flee the unit.

The 46-year-old was found wandering on Rawson Road, Guildford at around 4.30pm on Sunday after he flagged down a passing motorist who contacted Triple Zero.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene for injuries consistent with an assault where he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

A short time later officers from Cumberland Police Area Command arrested a 61-year-old man outside a residential housing complex along the same road where he was taken to Granville Police Station.

The older man has been charged with: Aggravated sex assault / Inflict actual bodily harm on victim / Take person intend commit serious indictable offence.

Officers established a crime scene at a unit inside the complex which is the residence of the older man.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
