Gwydir Highway, Grafton: Man dead in violent highway stabbing, homicide investigation underway

A man has died after he was stabbed in a targeted attack while walking along a street in northern NSW early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway near Hay Street, Waterview, about 1am on Wednesday, following reports of an assault.
Officers from Coffs/Clarence police district arrived to find a 35-year-old man suffering stab wounds.

Police reported that a crime scene has been established with State Crime Command’s homicide squad detectives now leading the investigation.
It is believed the stabbing was a targeted attack.
“The area is expected to remain a crime scene for a considerable amount of time, and motorists are urged to avoid the area,” NSW police said.
