Jetstar flight from Sydney to Phuket, Thailand makes emergency landing

A Jetstar flight bound for Thailand has made an emergency landing just hours after taking off.

Flight JQ27 left Sydney airport for Phuket about 3.20pm on Wednesday however landed back in Sydney about 5pm.

A Jetstar spokesperson said the aircraft had suffered a “mechanical issue”.

“Our pilots requested a priority landing and emergency services met the aircraft as a precaution,” they said.

“Our engineers are investigating the cause of the issue.”

It’s believed the plane’s front tyre exploded during take-off.

According to flight tracking data the plane circled several times near Richmond in northwest Sydney before flying over water east of the airport and landing.
