Man and dog killed in Lismore unit fire

7 News understands a Toyota Corolla veered off the road, crashed through a fence before striking the home. Ismail Hossain, who was first outside the house was hit by the car.

A man and a dog have died in a unit fire in NSW’s Northern Rivers region.

Emergency services were called to a house fire on Anstey St, Girards Hill, in the Lismore area about 1am Sunday and arrived to find the unit well alight.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze before recovering the body of a man and a dog from inside the home, police said.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

No one else was injured in the blaze.

Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
