Man dead after being pulled from water at NSW beach

A man has died after being pulled from the surf near Newcastle in NSW on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Catherine Hill Bay at about 2.45pm, following reports a man had been pulled from the surf and was unresponsive.

Lifeguards and NSW Ambulance paramedics administered CPR to the 55-year-old man however, he was unable to be revived.

Police attended the scene and have commenced inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
