Man shot dead by police in carpark of Manning Base Hospital in Taree, NSW mid-north coast
A man has been shot dead by police after he allegedly aimed a gun at officers in the carpark of a hospital on the NSW mid-north coast.
Police were called to Summerville Street, Wingham, following a concern for welfare about 12.20pm on Thursday before receiving reports a man was firing shots into the air nearby at Rouse Street about five minutes later.
Officers searched the area and later found the man in the car park of the Manning Base Hospital about 13km away, where a confrontation took place about 12.55pm.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“During the engagement, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at the attending officers, and he was shot by police,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Officers immediately rendered assistance to the man prior to the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.”
The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was taken into the Manning Base Hospital where he died a short time later.
No one else was injured in the incident.
A critical incident investigation team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation is also subject to an independent review.
