When they arrived police were allegedly confronted by 29-year-old Callan Davidson, with “an amount of blood on him”, Chief Inspector Michael Wurth said.

Callan’s mother, Cheryl Davidson, aged in her 50s, was then discovered “seriously injured” in a nearby tent.

Police commenced CPR on Cheryl until paramedics arrived.

Despite their efforts, she died at the scene.

Callan was arrested nearby and taken to Gunnedah Police Station.

He was later charged with murder (DV) and refused bail before appearing at Parramatta Local Court via video link on Saturday.

He did not apply for bail.

Callan is listed to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday, October 30.

Meanwhile, detectives have combed through what they described as a “traumatic” crime scene at the caravan park, in the search for answers.

A knife was among the items seized from the scene.

“It was a traumatic scene ... we know these (scenes) are traumatic and they can have an accumulative effect ... we’re providing support to those (responding officers) ... family and witnesses,” Wurth said.

No one else at the caravan park is believed to have been threatened, Wurth added.

“I can say... there are no other persons or suspects police are looking for,” he said.

Police earlier said the pair were both Gunnedah residents and were known to one another.

A report will be prepared with the coroner.
