An eight-year-old boy’s death at a home near Tamworth in northern NSW is being investigated as a potential homicide.

The boy was found unresponsive at a home in Moore Creek, Tamworth, about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Family members did CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived and he was rushed to Tamworth Base Hospital.

He could not be revived and was declared dead soon after.

Police have established Strike Force Fitzgerald to investigate the death.

They are being assisted by detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Police spent much of Wednesday speaking to family members and others connected with them, The Northern Daily Leader reported.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted in coming days to determine his cause of death.

Police investigations are continuing.
