One person has died after a cattle truck and a four-wheel drive collided on a highway in central west New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, about 10 kilometres north of O’Leary’s Lane, Peak Hill, about 5.10pm Monday, following reports of a serious crash.

NSW Police said a cattle truck carrying livestock had collided with a four-wheel drive, but could not provide any further details on the crash at this time.

Emergency services are on the scene. The Newell Highway is closed in both directions between Tomingly and Peak Hill.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
