Rat infestation plagues Westfield Bondi Junction food court
The disgusting discovery has horrified workers and shoppers.
One of Australia’s biggest shopping centres is in the grip of a rat infestation that has workers at their wits’ end.
Shocking new video shows rodents running wild in the food court at Westfield Bondi Junction, in Sydney’s east, with the pests spotted scurrying through kitchens and dining areas.

When asked if the infestation would change their mind about eating there for lunch, another shopper replied: “Yeah, it would. It definitely would.”
Frustrated staff have been forced to chase the rats out themselves, with many believing ongoing construction work could be responsible for the problem.
A $250 million renovation on level six above the food court is suspected of shaking the rodents loose from the walls.
This isn’t the first time Westfield has dealt with uninvited guests. In 2022, video emerged of rats running across the food court at Westfield Parramatta, with the pests also spotted at the CBD’s Westfield Sydney in 2019.
Centre management says more pest control and deep cleaning is being done to try to eliminate the rodents. Food outlets and supermarkets have also been put on notice to stay on top of emptying bins.
In a statement to 7NEWS, Westfield said: “We have regular inspections and targeted measures to eliminate pests at our destination. This is carried out in collaboration with our business partners who are required to undertake their own activity.”
