Staff at a hotel had to endure their worst nightmare as men armed with a handgun and knife burst into the venue demanding cash before speeding off in a getaway car.

Police are appealing for information following the armed robbery in Sydney’s southwest on Wednesday night that had all the trademarks of a gangster movie.

Officers attached to Campsie police area command were called to a hotel on King Georges Road, Wiley Park, shortly before 3am on Wednesday, following reports of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, police were told two men, armed with a handgun and a knife and with their faces covered, stole cash before fleeing the scene in a car.

Police believe a third person was waiting outside and drove the car away after the raid.

Emergency services reported that the staff at the hotel were understandably upset and shaken by the incident but all were uninjured.

Officers established a crime scene and investigations are ongoing.

Police have suspicions that the Wiley Park robbery is related to an earlier attempted armed robbery at a venue on Slade Road, Bexley North, about 2.20am.

On that occasion, the suspects in question were unable to enter the venue and left in a car.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage is urged to contact Campsie police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

If sighted, members of the public are urged not to approach the vehicle or the occupants.
