Sydney paper factory fire: Matraville storage facility erupts in flames

A paper facility in Sydney’s east has erupted in flames, with the fire spreading and setting nearby cars alight.
The blaze, which erupted in Matraville on Botany Road, is being described as a “six-alarm fire” by authorities, with over 20 trucks and 80 firefighters deployed to battle the ferocious flames.
NSW Fire and Rescue say the blaze is currently “under control”, however, embers have jumped due to strong winds in the area, setting multiple nearby cars on fire.

“There are cars on fire at the site, and this is a massive fire.
“We now have over 20 fire trucks on the scene with over 80 firefighters who will be rotating in and out of the area.”
It is understood that the facility is Opal Australian Paper, which is located near Sydney Airport.
Emergency services are urging people to stay away from the area as smoke continues to billow from the flammable paper storage areas.
It is understood that all staff have been accounted for.
