Motorists are expected to experience significant delays.

Commuters are in for a morning of peak hour traffic chaos after a four-vehicle crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge left one person trapped inside their vehicle.

There are significant traffic delays in both directions, with two of three southbound lanes and one northbound lane all closed.

“Another northbound lane has closed due to the crash — meaning two lanes are now closed in each direction,” Live Traffic Sydney said.

Traffic heading into the city is banked up across the lower north shore, stretching as far back to Artarmon on the M1 and Mosman on Military Road.

Northbound traffic now extends past the Anzac Bridge and onto the City West Link.

Two cars were involved in a head-on collision in the middle lanes of the bridge just after 8am on Wednesday, before crashing into two other cars.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to free the drivers from their vehicle.

One driver was initially trapped in a vehicle; however, they have since been removed and transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst with back injuries.

Another driver was also treated for minor injuries and taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Five ambulances are reportedly on the scene, including intensive care paramedics.

Motorists are being advised to allow plenty of extra travel time and exercise caution.
