Sydney Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting intoxicated passenger in car park released on bail

An Uber driver who allegedly raped a passenger during an early morning trip will be able to return home after he was granted bail ahead of his trial.
Mohamad Pili-Bake, 49, was arrested last May, nearly a week after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young woman in his car at a car park in Sydney’s inner-west.
A court was previously told he had picked up the woman after she finished work in Sydney’s inner west about 7am and drove her to her home, where he asked to kiss her.

He allegedly began to kiss her without consent before driving her to a car park, where he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman in the back seat.

Mr Pili-Bake has pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and one count of sexual touching without consent.
He will now be able to return home after Supreme Court Justice Sarah Huggett on Tuesday approved a bail application, which was not opposed by the prosecution.
“The crown case statement is before the court, and it reveals that the accused was an Uber driver who had picked the complainant up to drive her to a location,” Justice Huggett said.
“She was reasonably intoxicated when it is alleged that the accused committed the three offences.

“The complainant made an immediate complaint to her partner, ‘Help. Uber outside’”.
Mr Pili-Bake will be subject to 14 bail conditions, including a surety, to protect public safety.
“In circumstances where the Crown case suggests that the accused was an Uber driver and he committed sexual offences, it is alleged against a passenger who appears to have been intoxicated, in my view the public safety is a heightened consideration in the (bail) application,” Justice Huggett said.
Mr Pili-Bake’s trial will begin on February 9, 2026, and is estimated to span between seven and 10 days.
