A shocking collison between an e-bike rider and driver has been recorded on a dash cam, with calls new laws need to be made to protect young kids.

Footage first published by Dash Cam Owners Australia shows motorist driving down a tree-lined street in New South Wales, as a young girl on an e-bike approaches.

The young rider takes her eye off the road, glancing at her mobile phone. The driver presses the horn multiple times, warning the girl of the oncoming traffic.

The girl looks up when she’s about to collide with the car, quickly trying to break. However, she didn’t act soon enough and the e-bike crashes into the car.

Her helmet, which was not securely strapped to her head falls off, she falls to the ground.

“Oh my god,” the girl says.

The driver then gives her a warning, she could have been killed.

On Sunday, journalists Angela Mollard and Luke Bonas spoke about the incident on Weekend Sunrise.

“The number of deaths has been enormous,” Mollard said.

“There was another little boy in Queensland last week. Again, children are not safe on these.

“Yes, they have laws around them but they’re being modified. We need to stem the problem at the start.

“I don’t think we should ban them outright, but we need to get in control really quickly.

“This can’t be allowed to be something we examine for another year.

“I see them all the time in my street. Last week, the same thing always on phones.

“Kids are not learning that on these things that go, you know, 50km an hour.”

Bonas was equally outraged.

“I saw three of them on one bike, three of them on their phones,” Bonas said.

“ I used to ride my Mustang dragster to school when I was a kid, but there was not as much traffic back then.

“Our parents taught us the road rules.

“These are not just push bikes, they’re very fast bikes and there seems to be no standard.

“We need national rules.

“You’ve got trauma surgeons, politicians, police, teachers all saying more needs to be done and maybe education.”
