Twenty people, including children, have been stranded several metres in the air for more than an hour when a carnival ride malfunctioned in Western Sydney.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to Emmaus Catholic College at Kemps Creek about 12.38pm on Friday following reports children were stuck on a carnival ride.

“It doesn’t sound that much, but it’s a big enough drop to hurt somebody seriously,” FRNSW duty commander Gary Nash said.
7NEWS helicopter footage shows firefighters using a ladder platform to help riders down.


Several people remained seated and secured as crews worked to bring them to safety one by one.
FRNSW said all 20 people were safely rescued and no injuries were reported.
Nash said most riders remained calm and were in good condition before being assessed by paramedics.
The ride was one of several operating at a school fete marking its “Emmaus Day”.
It has been quarantined and will be handed over to SafeWork for investigation, he added.
