It was reported on Monday that early investigations included a theory the 35-year-old driver had intended to move the car forward, unaware it was still in reverse.

Police say the woman is known to the children.

She was not injured in the incident.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed to NewsWire on Wednesday morning that the five-year-old boy had been released from hospital.
