Wagga Wagga: Man arrested over death of four-week-old baby boy

A man has been arrested over the death of a four-week-old baby boy in NSW.

Child abuse detectives were notified when the infant was taken to Wagga Wagga hospital on July 27, 2023 in a critical condition after sustaining several unexplained serious physical injuries.

The baby was then transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital, where he died three days later.

Detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad established Strike Force Wighton to investigate the suspicious death.

A 26-year-old man known to the baby boy was arrested in Albury CBD on Friday.

Detectives say their investigation was assisted by the NSW Crime Commission which used its statutory powers.

The man has been taken to Albury Police Station.
