A man has died and several others are injured after two cars collided in Mount Moriac, Victoria, on Friday morning, resulting in the closure of the road.

The crash occurred about 11.30am near the intersection of Cape Otway Rd and Princes Hwy, involving a Mazda CX5 and a Toyota Landcruiser.

There were four people in the Mazda, with a male passenger dying at the scene.

An injured female passenger was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries while the other passenger had non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and has been taken to hospital under police guard.

The driver of the Toyota was also hospitalised with minor injuries.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time as detectives investigate the scene.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
