Tradesmen have rushed to the aid of an elderly woman who was injured in a house collapse in Brisbane’s inner west.

Josephine Curties, 85, was inside her home on Brown Pde, Ashgrove when it collapsed about 10.20am on Thursday.

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency (QFES) crews responded to the collapse but tradesmen working nearby were the first to rush inside.

The men and rescue crews helped the woman out of the home.

“We were just working across the road and we just hear a massive bang,” tradie Reef Urquhart told 7NEWS.

“Obviously, we ran over to see what’s happening.

“We smelled all the gas and we just ran in.”

Tradesman Ray carried Curties outside but insists he is not a hero.

“I just called out for a voice,” he told 7NEWS.

“You just want to hear a voice, if there’s a voice inside the house the natural instinct is to go inside the house and save the life.

“I don’t know about heroes, it’s a natural instinct for a human being to feel that way if something happens.

“You’re going to go in there and do something about it.”

Videos taken by the tradesmen on Thursday morning capture them running into the rubble of the home.

“Holy f****** hell,” one of the tradesmen said as he shoved open the gate and ran inside, calling out for any survivors.

“Anyone in there? Hello! Hello!”

He then turned to his workmate and said: “There’s gas, man. There’s gas.”

“Let’s call the cops.”

In a second video, he walks around the collapsed home after the woman was rescued.

“I can’t believe that,” he said.

“That’s a big house.

“Man, what happened? Man, oh man. It just f****** fell over.

“We got the old duck out ...

“That gas is pouring out.”

Curties suffered some cuts on her legs and was looked after by a neighbour.

“The occupant has suffered what we believe is no injury at all,” QFES Inspector Mark Burchard said.

“Which is very lucky.”

Curties was sitting in the front room of the home when it collapsed, and firefighters believe this position may have saved her life.

The family home, built in the 1950s, was still on its original stumps.

It is believed recent rain caused them to crumble.

“I’m just shaken up that it’s gone,” Curties’ daughter, Mandy Curties-Partridge, said.

“There’s no coming back from this, is there?”

However, Curties-Partridge is just glad her mother is OK.

“She could have been in the kitchen making her breakfast — and that’s the part that fell,” she said.
