Heartbroken friends and colleagues have paid tribute to a Christies Beach man who died in a horror pile-up on the Southern Expressway.

A Christies Beach man killed in a pile-up in South Australia has been remembered as a kind and good-humoured man by “shocked and shattered” loved ones.

John Iordanis, 58, was driving his green Ford Falcon when it collided with three other cars and a truck about 4.50pm on Friday.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved were taken to hospital for a range of non-life threatening injuries. Iordanis died at the scene.

Police are investigating whether Iordanis had experienced a medical episode at the time, and whether that led to the fatal pile-up.

The grandfather was remembered fondly as tributes flowed on Facebook for “one of the nicest guys you would ever meet.”

“Will miss your cheeky smile, our chats and our banter,” one person wrote on Facebook. “He certainly was an awesome man.”

Another wrote: “One of the best humans I’ve ever known, always loved a laugh. Shattered to hear this news. Going to miss you mate.”

Said another: “Was so shocked to get (the) phone call last night. (Had) known and worked with you for over 25 years. Had many laughs with you. You will be missed by so many people at work. Still Can’t believe it. You were Awesome Man. Heart of Gold.”

“He was one of the good guys, always smiling and happy to help,” another wrote.

He was the 44th person to be killed on the state’s roads this year.

As investigations are ongoing, police urge anyone with relevant information about the crash to contact them.
