An elderly man on a mobility scooter has been killed in a shocking hit-and-run in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Mulgoa Road and Ransley Street, Penrith, around 12:45 pm Friday following reports that a man on a mobility scooter had been struck by a car.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man, believed to be in his 80s, died at the scene.

His identity is yet to be confirmed.

Nepean Police Area Command officers established a crime scene, and the crash investigation unit is conducting an examination at the intersection.

About an hour after the shocking incident, police arrested a man at a nearby shopping centre on Jane Street.

He has been taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.

Traffic on Mulgoa Road remains affected, and authorities advise checking live updates for ongoing disruptions.
