Erebus sack crew member caught up in bizarre Bathurst incident
Erebus have sacked the engineer at the centre of a strange incident following the motorsport team’s Bathurst 1000 victory on Sunday.
Police were originally told that a 20-year-old man had been attacked on William St in Bathurst’s CBD but — after much concern from many about the incident — CCTV footage appeared to show that the man was throwing punches at himself while he walked down the street.

The first reports said the man had been attacked by three other men at 4.15am.
“NSW paramedics were called to the scene and took the man and a woman to Bathurst Hospital. They were discharged and travelled interstate,” the early NSW Police communications read.
Now, police have served a future court attendance notice to the man for common assault (DV) and false representation resulting in a police investigation.
An Erebus spokesperson also revealed the man had been sacked.
“Erebus Motorsport was advised by NSW Police that charges would be laid and his employment has been terminated,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
The man is now expected to appear in Bathurst Local Court on December 11 this year.
Police will allege he assaulted a woman known to him, and also that he was not assaulted by three other men but made a false report to police about an attack.
