A man has been seriously wounded after being shot four times in the western suburbs of Sydney.

At about 10.50pm on Wednesday, police were called to Dale Place, Winston Hills, following reports of the shooting.

Officers attached to Parramatta police area command arrived to find a man had been shot four times in various parts of the body.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 28-year-old man at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition where he remains under police guard.

A crime scene was established into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which will be examined by specialist forensic police.

About 11pm, officers were called to Redbank Road, Northmead, following reports of a car fire.

Officers attended and found a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV well alight.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and worked to extinguish the blaze, however the car was destroyed.

The vehicle was seized to be forensically examined.

A second crime scene has been established and inquiries are ongoing.
