Police arrest man at Sydney International Airport after a meth lab blew up an Auburn apartment

Police have arrested a man at Sydney Airport after an alleged drug lab was discovered following an explosion in an apartment in Sydney.

At about 6pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to an address on Station Road, Auburn, following reports of smoke coming from a unit.

Officers attached to Auburn police area command attended and evacuated residents as a precaution without injuries being reported.

A short time later Fire and Rescue NSW entered the unit and found a clandestine laboratory had exploded.

Police searched the unit block and seized an amount of substance, believed to be methylamphetamine.

A crime scene was established and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 27-year-old man at Sydney International Airport on Friday night, October 4.

He was taken to Mascot police station where he was charged with taking part in manufacturing a prohibited drug of more than or equal to a large commercial quantity.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday October 5, 2024, where he was refused bail to reappear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday November 27, 2024.
