Police probe after man found dead at home in Mitcham, Melbourne

A man has been found dead inside a home in Melbourne’s east, with a police probe now underway.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was found inside a unit on Simla St, Mitcham about 5.45pm on Thursday.

One of the paramedics who attended the scene was allegedly assaulted by a woman at the home, police said.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested and remains under police guard in hospital.

She has not yet been interviewed and it’s unclear if police are looking for anyone else in relation to the man’s death.

“The exact cause of the man’s death is yet to be determined but is being treated as suspicious at this stage,” police said.

Neighbours told 7NEWS they heard the woman screaming and banging on their door.

The unit where the man was found dead is part of a block of units owned by the government.

Carers who look after some of the residents who live there say the area is usually very quiet.
