Police are investigating the events leading up to the crash, with a 35-year-old woman charged on Sunday over her links to an allegedly stolen orange Holden Barina hatchback.

It is believed the car was stolen from a property in Northgate between November 6 and 7.

Police believe the 35-year-old attempted to steal a car in Newport on November 7 at about 7.45 am, threatening the female driver with what appeared to be a gun.

The woman allegedly assaulted the driver before bystanders intervened and she fled in the stolen Barina.

Police say about 15 minutes later, occupants inside the Barina allegedly threatened another woman with a gun and tried to steal a handbag before fleeing.

At 9.30 am, the Barina arrived at a Griffin address where a 16-year-old boy got out and threatened a woman with a gun before stealing an Audi, which was later involved in the fatal crash at Murrumba Downs.

The 35-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery while in company and armed, and one count of robbery in company while armed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She will face Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday.
