A three-year-old boy has died after a car crash south of Brisbane, collapsing in the foyer of a police station where officers desperately tried to save him.

Emergency crews were called to Burnside Road at Ormeau just before 5am on Saturday following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Police told The Nightly early investigations suggest a 22-year-old woman and a child were helped from the wreck by a passing motorist, who then drove them to the Beenleigh Police Station for help.

“A short time later, the three-year-old child became unresponsive in the foyer of Beenleigh Police Station with officers performing CPR, however the boy died,” police said in a statement.

A 24-year-old Beenleigh man, who is believed to have also been in the vehicle, allegedly left the scene before police arrived, taking a one-year-old boy with him.

Officers later located the man and the child at a Beenleigh address around 6:30am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the younger boy was taken to Logan Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives have established multiple crime scenes, and investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.

Police said the 24-year-old man is assisting with inquiries.

Authorities confirmed there is no threat to the community, and the Beenleigh Police Station has since reopened.
