A car has crashed into a high pressure gas line triggering an emergency in Queensland.

The car collided with another vehicle about 11.30am in Booval before striking the gas main, police say.

Police have announced an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act and and established an exclusion zone around the area bounded by Alexandra Street, Clifton Street, Bergin Street and Dudleigh Street.

The public has been advised to avoid the area and residents in the exclusion zone are urged to remain inside with all their windows and doors closed.
