A Brisbane kitchenhand has been charged after allegedly stabbing a female colleague hours after he was sacked over claims of inappropriate behaviour towards her.

Cameron William Leslie Clark, 33, allegedly charged at a 20-year-old waitress inside Easts Leagues Club at Coorparoo while armed with a knife about 5.10pm on Thursday.

Police allege Clark produced a large carving knife when he encountered the woman in a hallway leading to the main dining room and stabbed her repeatedly.

A 61-year-old chef, a Graceville man, went to her aid and was stabbed in the stomach, allowing the waitress to escape into the main dining area.

Clark allegedly attacked her again there while about 40 patrons were having dinner.

A 41-year-old female diner from Coorparoo, who intervened, was also stabbed, suffering a 4cm laceration.

Bystanders eventually restrained Clark before police arrived and arrested him.

The waitress was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital with a 10cm head wound, a 10cm laceration to her wrist and multiple defensive wounds to her hands requiring stitches.

The Norman Park woman remained in hospital on Friday.

Clark was also taken to hospital under police guard with significant injuries to his wrist and hand.

Police seized a large carving knife from the scene, which they allege was not sourced from the club.

Queensland Police Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said Clark had been on his day off when he received written notice of his dismissal about 2pm on Thursday over what was described as “unwanted and unsolicited attention” towards the waitress that “caused her distress”.

He said the pair were not in a relationship and did not know each other outside of work.

Massingham described the incident, captured on CCTV from multiple angles, as “confronting” and said it “unravelled very quickly”.

“I think we are very lucky and fortunate today that I’m not here discussing a more serious outcome,” he said.

“We were only fortunate that we had a number of bystanders that overpowered the 33-year-old male.

“It will be alleged the offender went there with a clear intent, I have no doubt about that, and we are just so thankful that that intent was not fully realised.”

In a statement, Easts Leagues Club confirmed the incident took place and stressed there were no ongoing safety concerns.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved during this difficult time,” the club wrote on Facebook.

The venue closed after the incident on Thursday night and reopened at 11am on Friday.

In an updated statement, the club said: “We want to acknowledge the bravery and compassion our team, members and community have shown following last night’s incident.

“Our security processes are robust and we want to reassure that our venue is safe.”

Clark, who lives in Woolloongabba, has since been charged with one count each of attempted murder, unlawful stalking, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and going armed to cause fear.

He is due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
