Huge comeback!
Aaron Kirby is reporting live.
Heartbreak!
Ryven Ewing has fallen out of the medal places of the 88kg wightlifting finals after falling short of lifting 175 kg.
It’s still a nice comeback after a poor snatch.
Favourite event
Kyle Chalmers has aced his 50m butterfly heat despite being the slowest off the block.
By the time he surfaced, though, he was nearly in front and even had time to take a few breathes in the final 15 metres.
He and teammate Ben Armbruster were the fastest qualifiers for the tonight’s semifinal while Cam McEvoy was fifth fastest.
Huge comeback!
Ryven Ewing is making a big charge in the men’s 88kg weightlifting final.
He was second-last after the snatch but has rocketed to second after lifting 170kg in the clean and jerk.
The competition is on!
NEXT
We now come to the men’s 50m butterfly.
Kyle Chalmers and Cam McEvoy lead the Aussies here but they are on from heat seven of nine onwards.
So a small Aussie pause in the pool.
Women’s Medley
Six Aussies in the water, six Aussies into the final.
Tara Kinder, Jenna Forrester and Ella Ramsay will contest the final of the 400m medley and Kinder did an amazing job to chase down the leader of her heat and touch the wall second after looking in a touch of bother midway
Hot heat
The second heat of the men’s medley had stars Lewis Clareburt and Max Litchfield whihc meant Se-Bom Lee’s work was cut out for him.
He hung onto the pair for a while but fell well behind to finish third.
However, it was enough to get through to the final.
Clareburt pipped Petric for the fastest time at 4.16.49.
Petric power
Will Petric has qualified for the final of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley with a very calm swim in his heat.
Brendon Smith was third-fastest and will have to wait and see on the times from the second heat.
Weightlifting
Aussie Ryven Ewing has some major catching up to do in the men’s 88kg final after lifting 136kg in the snatch, almost 30kg less than the leader.
However, he is starting with the fourth highest weight in the clean and snatch so is a chance to move right up the rankings.
First up
The women’s Heptathlon is the first event underway today with event one of seven, the 110m hurdles.
There were five PBs ran in the first heat despite the water all over the track after heavy morning showers.
Aussies Mia Scerri and Tori West were in the second heat and both made a strong start.
However, Scerri looked awekard over the second hurdle and didn’t recover to finish seventh while Tori West got a season best to finish fourth despite clipping a hurdle.
West puts herself into a strong position for the next events.
Welcome!
We are already at the halfway mark of the Games and it has been raining medals for Australia.
But it will be a West Aussie taking centre stage early on tonight as Peter Bol takes to the track for the 800m.
He also have some high jump action as well as our champions in the pool with Shayna Jack set to draw the curtain on her career today, hopefully with another medal.
Sit back and relax as we bring you all the latest action!
