A woman and a child have died following a horrific truck crash on the Bruce Highway north of Rockhampton on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Canoona around 10.40pm after a Mercedes-Benz truck and a Freightliner truck collided.

The driver of the Freightliner sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital.

Two passengers, who were also in the truck, were declared deceased at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes-Benz sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

QLD Police said the Bruce Highway in Canoona will remain closed for some time.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information or relevant footage are urged to contact the police.
