A young child has died after being pulled unresponsive from a backyard pool in Queensland.

The three-year-old boy was rushed to Bundaberg Hospital at 6.41pm but he could not be saved and was declared deceased.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said the incident was not suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

The tragedy comes after a coroner in Tasmania this week called for greater safety campaigns, pool inspections and laws for fence non-compliance.

She was investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who drowned in an unfenced pool in the front yard of his home who wasn’t properly supervised and hadn’t had any swimming lessons.
