The tragedy unfolded as a powerful weather system moved across the state, bringing torrential rain, strong winds and dangerous lightning.
The Bureau of Meteorology had earlier warned millions of Australians along the east coast to brace for soaking rain, severe thunderstorms and potentially giant hailstones as the system tracked slowly south.
Queensland Police and paramedics have urged residents to take extra caution during storm activity, avoid open fields and metal objects, and seek shelter immediately when lightning is nearby.
The woman’s death comes amid a week of volatile weather across eastern Australia, with multiple warnings still in place for heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
