Council seeking to identify bright green liquid that gushed onto Gold Coast’s Palm Beach

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is urging locals to stay clear and is launching an investigation to determine what the liquid is and how it got there.

A bright green liquid gushing from a stormwater drain pipe onto a Gold Coast beach is being tested by the local council.

Concerned Palm Beach locals reported the apparent spillage of the mystery substance on Tuesday afternoon to authorities.

It’s unknown if the substance is toxic to beachgoers or the environment.

“The city is conducting investigations to identify the source and determine if there has been a breach of the Environmental Protection Act,” a City of Gold Coast spokesperson told 7NEWS.

“The source is not yet known and investigations are continuing.”

7NEWS attended the site on Wednesday to find a puddle of the green liquid remaining at the pipe exit.
