Paramedics attempted to save him but he died at the scene.

Police allege a 36-year-old man, known to the victim, chased him from a Ganter St address through a neighbouring backyard to the footpath.

The man then fled in a white dual-cab Holden Crewman ute with a 20-year-old woman, believed to be his partner.

A police pursuit ensued, ending when the ute crashed along Golflinks Rd at Hamilton Creek about 10.45am.

It is alleged the pair then approached a woman in a silver Hyundai Santa Fe, threatened her at knifepoint, and stole her car.

The woman was unharmed, and police intercepted the vehicle along Benaraby Rd near Gladstone.

Both suspects were arrested.

Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow alleged the 36-year-old had been at the Ganter St house on Thursday night, where he is accused of assaulting two people before leaving.

Police attended the address at the time but no complaints were made by the residents.

The man allegedly returned on Friday morning.

“It is a shocking incident to occur,” Shadlow said, noting several witnesses — including a woman walking her dog — saw much of the alleged attack.

Three crime scenes have been declared and are being examined — the Ganter St property, the two vehicles involved, and the footpath where the 27-year-old died.

Investigations are ongoing, including inquiries involving other residents at the address.
