Police attempted to subdue the dog but were unsuccessful and it was “euthanised” at the scene.

Officers said investigations into the attack are ongoing.

It follows another attack in a Melbourne backyard on Thursday where a woman was critically injured and the three dogs responsible fatally shot by police.
