A woman is fighting for life after being mauled by three dogs in Melbourne, with the terrifying incident only ending after police fatally shot the animals.

Police were called to a home on Ross Street in Dandenong at 10am on Thursday after reports a woman was being attacked in the backyard.

In a statement, police said OC spray was used to get the dogs away from the victim but was unsuccessful and “police were forced to use their firearms with all three dogs fatally shot”.
