Gold Coast homeless man in critical condition after brutal Southport assault

A homeless man has been left fighting for his life after a brutal assault on the Gold Coast.
Police say the 54-year-old, who has no fixed address, was attacked at about 12.30am on Wednesday at the corner of Scarborough and Young Sts in Southport.
It is alleged a 29-year-old Southport woman approached the man, then repeatedly kicked and hit him before stealing his bag.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man suffered a “significant head injury”.
He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition in an induced coma.
Officers quickly tracked the woman to nearby High St and arrested her a short time later.
No charges have been laid.
Investigations are ongoing. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
