A man is in police custody after shots were fired from a Queensland home early on Wednesday.

The incident sparked a manhunt, with schools and a hospital locked down while police tracked a man who was believed to be armed.

Gunshots were fired from a property on Arthur Street in Kingaroy about 4am, police say, with the man allegedly fleeing the scene in a black Suzuki Swift, with false number plates displaying 551 GE9.

“A number of people were able to leave the property safely prior to police arrival,” a police statement read.

Around 1.30pm, officers arrested a 25-year-old man at Foleys Road at Goodger.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
