A man has been charged after allegedly threatening shoppers with a knife at a Logan Central shopping centre on Sunday morning.

Police say the 22-year-old man entered the Wembley Road centre about 10.40am and threatened several people before fleeing.

Security officers and members of the public followed him until police located and arrested him near the corner of Ellen Street and Kingston Road at 10.54am.

The Redbank Plains man has been charged with 12 offences, including four counts of common assault in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, two counts of threats, and one count of going armed to cause fear.

He is expected to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, 22 September.
