Major police operation shuts down Bruce Highway as shots fired at Coles Creek, Gympie

A Queensland highway has been closed in both directions by a major police incident on Friday.
Shots were fired at Coles Creek, Gympie, about 12.15pm, according to police, who declared an emergency Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA).
“An emergency declaration enacted for part of the Bruce Highway in Coles Creek, Gympie, after reports of shots fired,” police said at the time.

Police said there have been no reports of any injuries so far.
The army used defence vehicles to block the highway.
An exclusion zone was established encompassing Maher Road and both directions of the Bruce Highway adjacent to Maher Road.
The PSPA was revoked jut after 2pm.
Police say there “is no ongoing threat to the public” however the highway remains shut.
Residents in the exclusion zone were initially told to stay indoors and members of the public and motorists to avoid the area.
