Man dies after being pulled from surf at Surfers Paradise

A man has died in a suspected drowning incident on the Gold Coast.
Surf lifesavers and paramedics spent more than 20 minutes desperately trying to save the man, aged in his 50s, after he was brought to shore off The Esplanade at Surfers Paradise just before 5.50pm Queensland time on Monday.
Sadly, he could not be revived.

“Those resuscitation efforts were called off and he was pronounced deceased.”
The man, who is yet to be identified, was pulled from the surf by Gold Coast City lifeguards but it is understood he was not swimming in a flagged area, emergency services said.
Police remain at the scene but say at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
