A man whose body was found after he crashed his motorbike on a scenic Queensland road has been identified as a respected member of the riding community.

Brisbane mechanic Douglas Hart, who owned a business in Woolloongabba, was found dead on the corner of scenic route Mount Glorious Rd and Northbrook Parkway at Dundas in the rural Somerset region, northwest of Brisbane, about 10pm on Monday.

Loved ones had appealed on social media for information on the 41-year-old’s whereabouts after he had not returned home from a ride on his red Ducati motorcycle on Sunday.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to pay for his funeral, Mount Glorious was one of Hart’s “favourite places to ride”.

Campaign author Suzanne Birch also said the local motorcycling community had “rallied together like I very rarely see to find him” when he did not return.

“This is not the end result that we were hoping for,” wrote Birch, who runs community organisation Moto Magic Inc.

“Many of us in the motorcycle community either knew Doug, met him, sat at the café for a chat with or had crossed paths somewhere along the way out riding.”

Hart’s sister Trish Richards thanked those who had searched for him.

“My whole family is so incredibly thankful for everyone’s efforts to find him,” she said on Facebook.

“It brought both my parents to tears when I explained how big the outpouring of support from the online community had been.”

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
