A man has been shot by police in Queensland after threatening them with a knife.

Police were called to Kingaroy Hospital at 7.20pm on Friday.

On arrival, a man allegedly threatened officers with a knife and was subsequently shot by officers.

Medical assistance was provided to the man before he was flown to the Sunshine Coast Hospital.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.

The matter is under investigation and subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Police have asked for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
