A 17-year-old girl has died in Queensland after horrified onlookers watched her slip off the side of a popular cliff lookout.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 6.40pm on Saturday after receiving reports that a girl had fallen from a cliff at Moffat Beach.

The teen had reportedly climbed over a safety fence at a lookout on Queens of Colonies Parade on the Sunshine Coast to take a photo before the tragic incident occurred.

It is believed the teen was at the lookout with her family.

The girl fell around 30 meters from the cliff’s edge and was declared dead at the scene.

A woman who attempted to help the teen was reportedly injured at the scene, with those injuries assessed as minor.

Queensland Police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Ryan Dubyk from Queensland’s Fire and Rescue told Nine that people should stay back from safety fences.

“Please respect the barriers that are put in place … Just stay back,” he said.
